Word to Your Mother

Just a few funny Norah-isms I wanted to record so I wouldn't forget 'em...

"I'm sorry little ant." Norah's heartfelt apology to the ant she squashed (per my orders) this morning.

"Straw-burries"--Norah's favorite fruit, which she pronounces like a Brit. My cousins still ride me to this day for speaking in a British accent in a Thanksgiving play we made up and performed for our parents. I was about seven, and I was supposed to be a Pilgrim. I had learned in school that the Pilgrims came over from England, so it made perfect sense to me that they would speak with British accents, but try explaining that to my family. At any rate, the family joke is that Norah takes after mommy in the dialect department.

"Cap-uh-lillar" Norah's version of the pre-cocoon state of a butterfly.

"I'm getting busy!" Norah's typical exclamation after a prolonged period of spinning in circles.

At the doctor's office last week, we had a long wait (about 45 minutes) in the examining room before our doctor saw us, so I was talking to N about all of the framed pictures, which were various depictions of nursery rhymes. When we got to the one of "The Owl and the Pussycat", I asked her, who is in the boat, Norah? (expecting the obvious answer, "An owl and a kitty cat") Norah's response? "Scurvy pirates...arrrr!" (stated with her hand covering her eye, to resemble a patch) Yeah....guess we've watched that episode of "The Backyardigans" one too many times.
